Expert Witness Services

I provide expert witness services for the prosecution and defense in criminal and civil cases involving BDSM, dominance and submission (D/s), kink, and fetish. In addition to my Masters degree in Sexuality Studies, my expertise is grounded in over twenty years of direct experience within consensual BDSM relationships and kink communities, combined with ten years of professional clinical work supporting individuals and couples engaged in these practices. I offer informed, practice-based insight into consensual power exchange and alternative sexual dynamics. 

I served as an expert witness for the prosecution in People v. Anthony Duwayne Turner (Case No. LA095328) and People v. Roberto Gamero (Case No. 22001288), both of which resulted in successful convictions. The Gamero case is now taught in criminal law curricula and is shaping how BDSM-related dynamics are increasingly addressed in criminal defense.

As a clinical practitioner, I am experienced in explaining complex and unfamiliar relational dynamics to individuals with no prior exposure to kink or BDSM. This skill translates effectively to courtroom testimony, where judges and juries often require clear, plain-language explanations of nuanced practices, terminology, and consent frameworks. I am accustomed to presenting information in a manner that is precise, accessible, and grounded in professional standards.

BDSM is not solely an academic subject; it is a structured, embodied, and relational practice that involves negotiated consent, risk awareness, communication protocols, and clearly defined power dynamics. Misinterpretation of these elements can significantly affect how behavior is evaluated in legal contexts. My role is to clarify these distinctions accurately and without sensationalism.

Academic research on BDSM can provide useful context, yet expertise in this field requires direct familiarity with how these dynamics are practiced in real-world settings. BDSM involves physical interaction, negotiated power exchange, and relational responsibility that cannot be fully understood through theory alone. An expert witness should have both practical and theoretical understanding of these elements. My background allows me to distinguish between consensual BDSM activity and abuse, between risk-aware practices and negligence, and between healthy power exchange and coercive behavior; distinctions that are often central to legal analysis.

As a BDSM educator, my decision to expand into the intersection of BDSM and our legal system is to ensure that BDSM is being properly perceived in the world. I am passionate about BDSM being explored ethically, and I want to help find justice for those who are harmed by people using BDSM as an excuse for wrongdoing.
